Your Gift Transforms Lives
When you support MLERF, you are making a difference in the lives of people, young and old, affected by eye diseases. Whether it be a premature newborn baby diagnosed with Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) or a senior suffering from Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD), your donation is funding research to prevent and cure these types of eye diseases.
100% of all funds donated to the Grant Fund are awarded in grants
When you donate to the Grant Fund, you are helping to provide desperately needed “seed money”. 100% of all funds donated to the Grant Fund are awarded each year in August. Before research scientists can receive research grants and funding from groups like the National Science Foundation (NSF) or the National Institute of Health (NIH), the science must already be proven. The Federal Government typically only funds research that has progressed to the point where it has demonstrated viable outcomes.
Researchers need seed money to advance their research from a “promising idea” to a “demonstrated outcome.”
But how can a scientist prove his or her theory without the research? That is the catch-22 and that’s where your donation to the Grant Fund comes in. Researchers require seed money to be able to advance their research from a “promising idea” to a “demonstrated outcome.” Your donation provides the seed money to reputable institutions that have a track record of pursuing promising research endeavors.
As a result of preliminary MLERF funding, researchers have successfully applied for grants that provide a 10:1 return on the original MLERF investment
Your donation helps to take the ideas of today to create the cures of tomorrow. As a result of preliminary MLERF funding, researchers have successfully applied for grants from the NSF or NIH that provide a 10:1 (or higher) return on the original MLERF investment.
Trust and Endowment Fund (T & E)
Where the Grant Fund provides you with “immediate gratification” in the form of giving, the Trust and Endowment Fund provides you the opportunity to “pay it forward”. The Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Trust and Endowment Fund was established in 1984 as a “Living Trust” to ensure that support for eye research continues well into the future.
The Trust and Endowment Fund gives you the opportunity to “pay it forward”
The Trust instrument precludes the donation of any portion of the Trust Corpus (principal). Only interest accrued in the most recent fiscal year may be used and a maximum of 5% may be withdrawn.
