Sight Award Recipients

The Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund, Inc. William T Murphy Sight Award recognizes an individual or organization for their outstanding and dedicated service to furthering the cause of eye research. The award is named after William T Murphy, past president of MLERFi and long-time treasurer who dedicated nearly 30 years to the organization.

A Sight Award is typically presented by a Lions Club to one of its members. For a Lions Club to qualify for the award, the club must increase their donation to MLERF by a minimum of $1000 from the previous year. A 3-year average may be used at the discretion of the Executive Committee. For all others, a check for $1,000 is required.

While the criteria for selecting an award recipient varies from club to club, it may include:

  • Fund-raising activities,
  • Dedicated work on projects for the blind, or
  • Overall service to the goals of eye research.

All Sight Award recipients receive an Eye Research Sight Award pin and distinctive plaque.
